A Tale from the States Pt.2 – Killer Husband Hall of Infamy

For the first part of this article read here

The roll call for the Igbo killer husband hall of infamy is as follows:

1.) Theophilus Ojukwu of Garland, Texas whose wife Melvina was an RN. In a strange occurrence, two years earlier Melvina’s mother and mother in-law of Theophilus, who was visiting from Nigeria tragically died in a mysterious circumstance in a bathtub in their house at 5400 block of Barcelona Drive, Garland Texas; the same house where Melvina also met her untimely and heartbreaking death. She was killed on March 25, 2007.

2.) A Tennesse based Igbo man whose wife was an RN killed her and her mother at the same time.

3.) Kelechi Charles Emeruwa of Burtonsville, Maryland whose wife Chidiebere Omenihu Ochulo was also an RN. He stabbed her and cut her up like the Christmas turkey on New Year’s Day.

4.) An Igbo man in Los Angeles, California whose wife was also an RN was killed, her dead body tied to his truck and dragged through the roads and streets of Southern California until her skull cracked and poured out all its contents.

5.) Mr. John Onwuka of Hampton, Virginia was charged with one count each of homicide and use of a knife in the commission of a felony. He stabbed his RN wife of twenty five years, Mrs Gloria Uchechi Anya Onwuka, fourteen (14) times in her bedroom while she was getting ready to go to work. Mr. John Onwuka committed this crime on the night of Saturday August 19, 2006 with their children watching him carry out this dastardly act.

6.) Mr Michael Collins Iheme of Hennepin, Minnesota shot his twenty-eight (28 year) old wife, Anthonia Eberechi Iheme. She had a 4 year old boy and 3 year old girl and worked as an RN.

As a result of the severity of these cases, all these men were found guilty and most of them received the death sentence but because of the unusually cruel and extreme way that the LA based man and Kelechi Emeruwa carried out their own murder, they received life sentences without the possibility of parole. No matter what these women were doing to you, Oga LA and Kelechi, biko, what were you thinking? Now, who will raise your children? You wonder where their children were while they were doing this and the psychologically damage they have wrought on them more so for those who witnessed the murders of their mothers.

For a while now, we have not heard of any more of these murders and I hope that is because these RN wives have learnt from the many other RN wives who successfully manage their homes in spite of making more money than their husbands. I also hope that is also because their husbands have learnt from husbands of the many RNs who successfully cope with a wife who make more than they do. These men should also know that being the husband and the de-facto head of the family is not about control, dominance, abuse or manipulation. There are doctors in the US who make significantly more money than the RNs but we are not recording the high rate of spousal murder within their profession. The strange thing is that these murders are prevalent in the US but rarely occur in Canada and the UK where Nigerian women also dominate the immigrate population in nursing. Is there something different about the nursing profession in the US?

The good thing is that for every RN who is killed or divorced by their husbands, there are thousands more who live peacefully, respect their husbands, submit to their husbands’ authority, and still raise their children. I don’t know what they are doing but whatever they are doing, it is working. The onus now lies on them to share their knowledge or practices with the rest of their sisters who are getting killed for just eating a slice of the American pie. Ka Chineke mezie okwu !!!
